The second meeting of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) was held in Baku on December 22. The meeting was opened by the chairman of the commission, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev. He said that members of various state bodies are represented in the commission. He emphasized that the relevant order of the head of the state on the approval of the members of the commission put a great responsibility on the commission members. A. Garayev informed that during the meeting of the 12th General Conference and Executive Council of ISESCO held in Baku in 2015, Azerbaijan was elected chairman of the General Conference for the next three years. "This year the commission's work was quite busy. We have a high level of organization of events both inside the country and abroad. The second meeting of the National Commission coincides with the eve of the international conference "2017 - Islamic Solidarity: Religions and Intercultural Dialogue" held in Baku. We are pleased that ISESCO General Director Mr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri also participated in this event. As you know, Baku was the capital of Islamic culture in 2009. We have then proved that we are more tolerant, peace-loving, and respectful of Islamic values not only for the Islamic world but also for the whole world. Hundreds of events were held in the capital Baku and in various parts of our country. At the VI Conference of Ministers of Culture of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in October 2009 in Baku a decision was made to declare the city of Nakhchivan as the capital of Islamic culture for 2018. The reason why the city of Nakhchivan was proclaimed as the capital of Islamic culture in 2018 is the fact that along with other factors, the restoration of sanctuaries, religious and cultural monuments were quite important in the autonomous republic. This decision is a manifestation of the high value of the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of this ancient land of Azerbaijan, which makes a significant contribution to the dialogue between civilizations. I believe that the city of Nakhchivan will be able to cope with this mission at a high level" ISESCO Director-General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri spoke on Azerbaijan's relations with ISESCO. "Relations between Azerbaijan and ISESCO have grown remarkably well. Until today since Azerbaijan has been a member of ISESCO, there is a big development. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva have always supported us. We are delighted with our relationships and exemplary partnerships. Every time I'm in Baku, I see new changes. There is progress in the entire life of the country. This is a result of the successful and thoughtful policy of the President. There is a tendency in the world that there is a negative opinion on Muslim states. We must overcome all this. Azerbaijan is the pearl of our modern Muslim world. Azerbaijan's path is stability and development. The Islamic world can take a lot from this country. " Members of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for ISESCO - Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Isa Habibbeyli, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Intigam Babayev, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Seyyad Salahli, , Deputy chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Aynur Sofiyeva, academician Vasim Mammadaliyev and others spoke about the work to be done within the framework of "Capital of Islamic Culture Nakhchivan-2018". Vasif Eyvazzade, Head of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Secretary General of the National Commission for ISESCO, presented the site of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to participants of the event. Then, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev presented the book " Nakhchivan-Legend of the East" to ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri. At the same time preparations for the 10th anniversary of the "Baku Process" in Azerbaijan in 2018, attracting tourists to our country in the days of "Capital of Islamic Culture" and placement of information on the newly created site in this context were discussed at the meeting.
